I LOVE this about TOS Kirk. He never lets people settle for their “best”, even his closest friends. He knows what needs to be done and expects it to happen. He sees the potential others don’t see in themselves. His standards are impossibly high but his belief in the people around them allows them to rise above what they thought they could to do meet (and often surpass) those standards. James T Kirk, you are one badass mf starship captain.
